Current goal: visit every National Park site! Traveling to NC State & National Parks, Disney & Anywhere the road takes us! Blogging about it all here:

Spent the day exploring and relaxing as a couple i Spent the day exploring and relaxing as a couple in Greensboro, NC last Saturday. First, if you want to eat at a popular eatery you should probably call ahead and get your name on a list. We didn’t, but we were able to explore some while we waited. The Arboretum was beautiful this time of year to take a morning stroll. There are tons of pretty parks to check out here- we have a few more on our list to get to! Scrambled Southern Kitchen did not disappoint- everything we ate there was amazing. We also stumbled upon a fun outdoor festival, walked downtown and checked out Woolworth’s for the first time. We finished the day at Yum Yum’s ice cream on the campus of UNC Greensboro. Take those rest days when you can!!
Last summer we spent two epic weeks in California. Last summer we spent two epic weeks in California. As we plan for our big summer trip I am enjoying thinking about last year. We were in the middle of building our house and desperately needing a break from it all. This was our first time going to San Diego and wow- I think it’s one of my favorite cities in the whole US! Cabrillo National Monument was magical. The views, rocky coast line, and ocean life were incredible. It felt like a little hidden gem. This is also a historical site where you learn about the first European to set foot on the west coast and what went down from there. This was another one of those classic times when a park highly exceeded our expectations. It should be on your list if you find yourself in the area!……
Do you have a favorite city in the US? We’d love to know!
Could this be the most beautiful beach in the US? Could this be the most beautiful beach in the US? Gulf Islands National Seashore just blew us away. The most emerald clear water we have ever seen, plus white sand for days. Even though it was unseasonably chilly the day we went it was still worth it. There are several public beach access areas you can enjoy (with no facilities) or there is Opal Beach that requires a fee but has facilities like restrooms and gazebos for picnics. You can also make your way down to Fort Pickens where they have a ranger station, visitor center and the fort to explore. We can’t wait to plan another trip here when it’s warmer. Do you have a favorite beach?
Cumberland Island National Seashore- totally worth Cumberland Island National Seashore- totally worth the effort to get out here! This island is only accessible by ferry and it’s recommended to reserve your tickets before you go. We spent the day here exploring the island around the 5 mile Southern Loop trail. This hits all of the highlights like the Dungeness ruins, maritime forest, salt marsh boardwalk, the sand dunes, and the beach (where you can hunt for shells for days and even return home with what you find). Bring a picnic lunch, plenty of water, bug spray and some good walking shoes and you are good to go! There are plenty of great overnight campsites available as well. This experience far exceeded our expectations! We saw wild horses, armadillos, deer and tons of dolphins on our ferry ride back. National Parks get us every time. Who has made the trip to Cumberland Island?!
Fort Frederica National Monument! Located in St Si Fort Frederica National Monument! Located in St Simons Island, GA - another town that should be on your list to visit. This is an historical park highlighting a British town and fort but also the natural beauty here will draw you in. We loved exploring the grounds first thing in the morning. Get there early and avoid the heat and have the park to yourself! Another tip is to stop across the street at the Methodist church to walk their gardens and visit their beautiful chapel. Have you been to this National Park site?
Back at it again! Taking our time traveling down t Back at it again! Taking our time traveling down the Low Country. First stop was Beaufort, SC. We have never been here and wow- blown away. This town is simply dreamy. We could have spent way more time here exploring. Our main reason for coming was to visit the Reconstruction Era National Park site- because we have to see them all and get those stamps! National Park sites never disappoint and always give us the best town and cities to discover. Have you been to Beaufort? What was your favorite part?!
Day 1 of driving down the Natchez Trace Parkway. S Day 1 of driving down the Natchez Trace Parkway. Spent a lot of time chasing waterfalls and small towns along the way. Franklin, Tennessee is super cool, a great town to check out when you are around Nashville. Ended up taking a detour to Shiloh to grab our 95th National Park stamp. That is a pretty massive site - 5,000 acres - so if you want to check it out expect to spend at least a couple of hours there. Excited for day 2!
August is always kind of a transitional month for August is always kind of a transitional month for us. Time to figure out and prepare for school, plan for the fall, start baseball and all of the other life things. We’ve been spending some free moments exploring some of our state parks this month. It’s always good to stop, get outside and explore. We recently spent a day hiking at Raven Rock in NC. Even though we’ve been many times, there is always more to discover.
.
How is your August going? Do you have any fun adventures coming up soon?
